Winter threatens refugees and displaced families in the Middle East.
Syria, Jordan and Iraq have been struck by a wave of frost following the snow storm that hit the region recently. Temperature degrees have sharply dropped and, according to some reports, it has reached -10 degrees Celsius in Beqaa, Lebanon.
“We turned the stove on and an electrical heater to keep warm. It is freezing! May God help the refugees,” says Rawan Khazaal – a Lebanese citizen living in Baalbeck, Beqaa.
Even in Europe, the situation is very bad as four asylum seekers are believed to have been killed by the conditions so far and thousands more remain at risk while sleeping on the streets or in tents and inadequate shelters, charities are warning.
UNHCR teams are on the ground helping to provide warm clothes, blankets, mattresses, stoves, fuel, insulation kits and cash assistance to these families. Many of them are still waiting to receive our help.
