Earlier this week, Queen Rania of Jordan visited a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh. The 47-year-old queen met with women and children at the Kutupalong camp in Ukhia, in the south-east of the country, on Monday.
During her visit, she called on the international community to respond ‘effectively, quickly, and generously’ to the ‘shocking escalation of violence against the Muslim Rohingya minority in Myanmar.’
Almost 600,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh in the past two months. For years, the Rohingya people in Myanmar have been victims of discrimination, injustice, and oppression. Sadly, this systematic persecution of a religious minority is taking place in full view of the world.
