Is it essential to ask the host if the meat that is being served is slaughtered or not?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
- Asking the host if the meat that is being served is slaughtered or not is an innovation. If your host is a Muslim by default, the food he is serving is halal.
- If your host is a Christian, is it permissible to eat the food he is serving you.
