Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
If you mean wearing golden colored sandals, then this would be permissible.
Answering your question, Sheikh Mustafa Umar, President of California Islamic University, states:
If you mean wearing golden colored sandals, then this would be permissible. Wearing something in the color of gold is not forbidden in Islam.
However, if you mean wearing sandals that are actually made from real gold, or have lots of gold decoration on them, then this is still permissible for women, since they are allowed to wear gold as jewelry.
However, the Prophet said, “Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver; do not eat from plates of gold and silver, because they are for them [the disbelievers] in this world and for you [the Muslims] in the Hereafter.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Therefore, there may be an aspect of excessive extravagance in wearing ‘sandals of gold’ the same way as there is when eating from utensils of gold. This of course depends on how much gold content is in the sandals.
Almighty Allah knows best.
