Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
You may read the Quran from the devices such as iPad or iPhone, or cell phones- even if you are not in a state of wudu.
Responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:
You may read the Quran from the devices such as iPad or iPhone, or cell phones- even if you are not in a state of wudu. Undoubtedly, wudu is recommended. It is not hard to condition yourself to be in a state of wudu as much as possible.
It said that wudu is the weapon of the believer as it may be conducive for constancy in dhikr or remembrance of Allah.
There is no solid evidence for making wudu obligatory for reading the Quran, although it has been the position of the majority. Even those who say so would only make it mandatory if one were reading from a Mushaf; they said it does not apply to reading from memory or from devices that store the Quran.
Therefore, seize the opportunity of reading the Quran as much as possible even if you were not in wudu.
Almighty Allah knows best.
