Can You Read Quran on Behalf of Someone Dead?

17 May, 2024
Q Is it permissible for me to recite the Quran on behalf of my dead father so that he can receive the reward and it will be added to his record of good deeds?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

1- Some scholars view that someone will receive the reward of the deed you perform in their name simply based on your intention.

2- Some other scholars believe that reciting Quran for the dead is allowed and that the dead will get its reward.

3- Insha’Allah reciting the Quran will be one of the sources of sending the reward for the dead.
