During Prayer, Can I Make Duaa in My Language? (Video)

03 March, 2022
Q I am a new Muslim and I learned few surahs. During prayer, I want to make duaa (supplications) in the prostration position, but I do not understand Arabic. Is it permissible for me to make duaa in my own language during prayer?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

If you cannot speak or understand Arabic and you want to make duaa (supplication) during prayer in the prostration (sujud) position, it is permissible for you to make duaa in any language other than Arabic.
