Can the Deceased Hear Us at the Grave?

17 October, 2024
Q Are the deceased able to hear and see us when we visit their graves?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

  1. The deceased cannot see us when we visit their grave, there is no authentic hadith or verse to establish that.
  2. About the deceased being able to hear us, there are two opinions. The first one says that they can hear us and the second says that they cannot hear us.
  3. You can have a heart to heart conversion with the deceased but you should not be making dua to them. Although making dua for them is permissible.
