Can Muslims Say ‘Merry Christmas’ to Coworkers? (Video)

23 December, 2023
Q Can Muslims say 'Merry Christmas' for co-workers?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

1- If a phrase like ‘Merry Christmas‘ conveys a theology that is against the teachings of Islam, then we cannot say that phrase.

2- However, if the phrase is generic and we are simply saying you know may you have a good day today, then these types of generic phrases are permitted in Islam.
