Dear brother, thank you for your important question that reflects your sincere concern about your community’s affairs which is the duty of every Muslim.
Generally speaking, Muslims, in the West or the East, are allowed to participate in political parties as long as they serve their communities.
Responding to your question, Dr. Hatem Al-Hajj, Dean of Shari`ah Academy of America, stated,
In general, yes you are if that will bring benefits to the Muslims and their communities and the other communities as well.
The details of which party to participate in or vote for must be left to the scholars and experts of the respective countries and the public should follow their scholars and experts.
Dr. Wael Shehab, PhD in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University and currently the Imam of the Downtown Toronto Masjid in Canada, stated:
In fact, Muslims should be faithful and active in their communities. They should spare no efforts to serve their communities and work for people’s wellbeing.
Therefore, Muslims are recommended to join and vote for political parties that promote justice, freedom, equality, and all human values. Refraining from political participation could lead to serious problems and evils.
Allah Almighty knows best.
