Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
You are allowed to visit the grave of your fiancé and pray for her. The fact you were not married should not stop you from visiting her grave even as you may visit any other person’s grave.
Responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:
You are allowed to visit the grave of your fiancé and pray for her. The fact you were not married should not stop you from visiting her grave even as you may visit any other person’s grave.
There are two benefits to visiting graves;
- It helps us to pray for the deceased;
- It reminds us of our final destination.
So, there is nothing wrong if you want to visit your ex-fiancé and offer prayers. You may choose to read the Fatihah and ask Allah to shower her with His mercies.
Almighty Allah knows best.
