Can you make the intention to fast a voluntary day of fasting after the sun has risen?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
- It was the practice of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to wake up and ask if food was available and if it wasn’t, he would decide he was going to fast.
- The intention for fasting should be made before Fajr arrives, however for voluntary fasting the rulings are different.
