Can a Convert Join Non-Muslim Family for Holiday Dinner? (Video)

20 December, 2022
Q A great number of converts have relatives who are non-Muslims and would want the whole family to join them for holiday dinners for Christmas or Thanksgiving. Is it permissible to attend such dinners?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

In this fatwa:

  • It is permissible for a convert to join his non-Muslim family for a holiday dinner.
  • Any gathering between family members that will help maintain family ties is encouraged.
  • Make sure that you stay true to your religion. Do not partake in any non-Islamic rituals or practices. It is OK to spend time with family members at these events. It can be a good means of Dawah.
