Answer
Wa `alaykum As-Salamu waRahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
It is recommended for the one who hears the Adhan and the Iqamah to repeat their words then say the supplication (O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer to be offered, grant Muhammad the privilege (of interceding) and also the eminence, and resurrect him to the praised position that you have promised).
Answering your question, the General Iftaa’ Department in Jordan, states the following:
According to Prophetic narrations, it is permissible to repeat the words of the Adhan upon hearing it pronounced and to say the supplication (O Allah, Lord of this perfect call………) that comes after it, and this includes the Iqamah as well since both (Adhan and Iqamah) are a call to prayer.
It was narrated that Jabir said the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Whoever says, when he hears the call to prayer: “Allahumma rabba hadhihid-da`wat it-tammah was-salat il-qa’imah, ati Muahmmadan al-wasilah wal-fadilah, wab`athu maqaman mahmudan alladhi wa’adtahu (O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the prayer to be offered, grant Muhammad the privilege (of interceding) and also the eminence, and resurrect him to the praised position that you have promised),’ will be granted my intercession on the Day of Resurrection.” (Al-Bukhari)
The Prophet also said: “When you hear the mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasilah for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the wasilah, he will be assured of my intercession. ” (Muslim)
Moreover, Muslim scholars are of the view that it is recommended to repeat the words of the Adhan and the Iqamah.
Imam Ash-Shafi`I views that it is recommended for whoever hears the Iqamah to repeat its words.” (Mughni Al-Mutaj)
In addition, “It is recommended for whoever hears the Iqamah to repeat its words after the mu’adhdhin.” (Al-Mughni)
Almighty Allah knows best.
