In his response to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:

I pray to Allah to forgive your deceased parents, save them from the trials of grave and hellfire, and admit them into paradise. I also pray that Allah consoles your heart and inspire you with patience in accepting the will of Allah. Remember that Allah does always what is best for His servants.

As for the prayers, you may read Al-Fathihah as well as Yaseen or any other surahs of the Qur’an and ask Allah to reward them; you may also read the following du`aa’s (supplications) on a regular basis:

Rabbi ighfir lee wa li waalidayaa walil mu’mineen yawma yaqoomu al-hisaab

(My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and the believers on the day of judgment)

Rabbi irhamhumaa kamaa rabbayanee saghiran

(My Lord! Have mercy on my parents as they were merciful to me when I was little)

Allaahumma ighfir lahum wa irhamhum wa adkhilhum al-janna wa qihim adhaaba al-qabri wa adhaaba al-nnaar

(O Allah! Forgive them and have mercy on them and admit them into paradise and save them from the trials of grave and hell fire).

You are also allowed to pray for them in your own language.
