Answer
Asalamu Alaikum,
Thank you for contacting About Islam with your question.
Dr. Shabir Ally addresses this question in the video below:
Transcript:
Aisha Khaja: So, Dr. Shabir, we have a question from a viewer who says that they’re finding themselves constantly repeating a very horrible sin. And feel shy and depressed asking God for repentance.
Dr. Shabir Ally: Well obviously, we can’t sanction any commission of crime from a legal perspective. That’s a state matter. And we are speaking only from a religious perspective about the forgiveness of God.
And we say that there are certain conditions if one is sincerely repenting. And then one would be forgiven by God Himself. Repentance means if you harm somebody: you repay that harm, you make do with that, make right with that person.
If you commit sin against God, you ask God to forgive you and you are determined not to repeat that sin and you follow up your sin with doing something good.
Then if you do these things, even if you happen to be sort of addicted to sin and you can’t help yourself, just ask God. And God will forgive you. And God will give you strength to overcome that sin.
I hope this helps answer your question. Please keep in touch.
Walaikum Asalam.
