Building Mosque As Legacy For “Beacon Of Light” Killed In Tragic Accident

Thousands of pounds have been raised to build a mosque in memory of a young man described by loved ones as a “beacon of light,” following his tragic death in a car crash in Sheffield.

Daniel Mahmood, 32, died after a collision on Friday, April 24, according to South Yorkshire Police.

The devastating incident has left family, friends, and the wider community mourning a life remembered for its warmth, generosity, and humility.

“Daniel was a beacon of light; he was the kind of soul who could illuminate any room he entered and place a smile on any face,” said his brother, Uswah Iman, Yorkshire Live reported.

In the wake of his passing, a fundraising campaign has been launched to honour Daniel’s legacy through a lasting act of charity.

The initiative aims to support the construction of a mosque, reflecting the values he embodied throughout his life.

Describing his brother as “selfless in the truest sense,” Uswah Iman said Daniel was always ready to help others without hesitation.

“He was funny, charming, beautifully outgoing and most importantly, humble,” he added, noting the profound loss felt by those who knew him.

“He was the kind of person you could call at any hour, for any reason and he would come without hesitation. His absence is felt deeply by our family, his circle of friends and the wider community,” he continued.

The family has chosen to channel their grief into a project rooted in ongoing charity.

Donations are being directed through The NK Foundation, with the intention of supporting various causes and, God willing, establishing a mosque in Daniel’s name.

“Daniel’s heart was open, generous and always inclined towards giving. Therefore, in his memory, and on his behalf, we have chosen to donate to The NK Foundation,” Uswah said.

“Through this foundation, we will be donating to various appeals and, God willing, building a mosque in his name. This is offered as an ongoing charity, a contribution that continues to benefit others and bring reward even after a person’s passing.”

As of 11am on Tuesday, April 28, more than £6,000 has been raised toward the project, reflecting strong early support from the community.

While the tragedy has left a deep void, the growing campaign stands as a testament to the impact Daniel had on those around him—an effort to ensure his legacy continues through acts of faith, service, and lasting good.
