All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
If a girl receives a marriage proposal from a bank employee who works in the engineering administration department of a bank, she can accept the proposal.
In responding to your question, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states;
You need not reject the marriage proposal from a person who works in the engineering administration department of a bank that specializes in building apartments and luxury buildings. This is because his job is not haram. He is doing work related to his expertise.
The fact he is associated with a bank should not lead us to make such a judgment. Nowadays, it is hard to find an area of work that is wholly free of all taints of haram. Since Allah is Merciful, he does not burden us with tasks beyond our capacity or endurance.
If one’s income is tainted with haram, one should strive to purify the same through Istighfar and voluntary charities.
