I chose Islam not to avoid Hellfire, not to attain Paradise, but purely because I wanted, more than anything, to be near to God. Here and now, and later in Paradise if He chose.
It might make sense in theory that actions at the physical level affect us spiritually. How many of us rush through our prayers in an effort to get to other things we need to do, unaware that our hearts did not benefit from the prayer?
“The path always starts with trials and tribulations. Then comes a period of patience and reliance upon Allah. And the end is enlightenment, guidance and victory.” (Imam Ibn al-Qayyim)
In all of our lives, we go through difficulties and we struggle and strive at one point or another. So the thing that Allah completely knows and understands and appreciates everything that we go through.
But Allah Almighty is that Al-Hayy is not subject to time as we are; in fact He is the creator of time. So we’re trying to understand Him within the construct of His own creation.
When you’re near to Allah, you remember Allah often, you speak about Him often, you talk about Him as much as you can.
In spite of the fact that so of human beings will deny Him despite the fact that so many people continue to associate partners with Allah Almighty and attribute to Him children and deficiencies and qualities that are beneath His majesty and perfection, He continues to provide from His mercy for all of them.
How can we deal with the challenges of modernity in a way that doesn’t harm our faith? Ease the mind of its stress and sorrows and bring by a spiritual strength through drawing closer to Allah.
The Muslim accepts no man as a mediator between himself and his God. He goes direct to the invisible source of creation and life, God, without reliance on saving formula of repentance of sins and belief in the power of a teacher to afford him salvation.
Know that Allah is the Writer of your story. Know that not a leaf falls on earth except by His Knowledge. And know that when all else fails, He is there taking care of us. He is The Guardian Friend of those who believe.
Conversion within us does this. It literally moves us from one place in life to another. Therefore, every piece of "us" must change; it must undergo examination and renewal to arrive at the truth, not just back into it accidentally or unwillingly.
