Spirituality can permeate every aspect of our lives, and it really comes down to having the right intentions and the right awareness, opening your eyes a little bit wider and paying better attention to all of the signs that surround us...
When your forehead touches the ground in prayer, just take time, let your forehead stay there a bit longer than normal and say to Allah: “O Allah, help me to be a better person, help me to be a better Muslim” and surely He will reply.
Every human being basically has this sort of hole inside of them, and that hole can only be filled with one thing: being close to Allah (SWT). There’s nothing else that can fill this hole.
The happiest and most fortunate people are those who are always intoxicated with ardent desire for the worlds beyond. Those who confine themselves within the narrow and suffocating limits of their bodily existence are really in prison, even though they may be living in palaces.
If you’ve seen images from satellites, you can see the earth itself is just a tiny, tiny little piece, almost like a germ or even less than that. Then how we treat germs? We completely disregard them, we don’t care for them, we don’t appreciate them...
For some reason we think taking care of our body is more important than taking care of our soul. And the reason why that’s tragic is because your body is actually wasting away. Every single day your body is dying. But your soul is the same soul you are taking to eternity. You realize that?
Now if you think about this life as an ocean, and think about the boat as your heart: as long as that boat stays on top of the water- on top of the ocean (the dunya) and doesn’t let the water in, it’s fine. It stays floating and it is ok. But as soon as that boat allows water into it, that’s when it sinks.
True spirituality is to be able to move from those moments of solitude with Allah to begin to find spiritual peace and tranquility within the creation and when dealing with others. Allah Almighty says about the prophets that they used to walk in the markets; that they used to deal with people.
Being a prisoner you are kept from two things you love the most--your home--where there is rest and comfort--and your loved ones--who give you joy and fulfilment.
Remove the veil and rise up. Come back to yourself. Come back to where you began. Come back Home. Know that when all the other doors have shut in your face, there is one that is always open. Always. Seek it. Seek Him and He will guide you through the waves of the cruel ocean, into the mercy of the sun.
