Domestic Violence in Muslim Community & Tips for Victims

How to deal with domestic violence? In this Khutbah, Dr. Yasir Qadhi addresses this problem, refutes claims justifying it, and provides useful tips for victims.

Dr. Yasir Qadhi discusses spousal abuse in Muslim communities, condemning the misguided people who justify violence using the Quran and the Sunnah.

He stressed that under no circumstances is violence against women allowed in Islam. The Quran and hadith is replete with stories that describe the accepted behavior of Muslim spouses towards each other. The relationship should be one of mutual love, respect and kindness.

Lady `A’ishah, the wife of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the Prophet never hit a woman or a servant.

The Prophet’s renowned farewell sermon to the Ummah in fact highlighted that men must fear Allah when treating women.

Dr. Yasir Qadhi concludes the speech with useful tips for spouses suffering an abusive experience. He goes on to elaborate on the community responsibilities towards victims of domestic violence.
