Is Earth Full of Us?

{O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.} [Surat Al-Hujurat 49:13].

Human population has been rising continuously since the end of the Black Death, around the year 1350. However, the most significant increase has been since the 1950s. That’s mainly due to medical advancements and increases in agricultural productivity.

The rate of population growth has been declining since the 1980s, while the absolute total numbers kept increasing. As of November 16, 2017 the UN announced that the world’s human population is over 7.582 billion.

Most contemporary estimates for the carrying capacity of the Earth under existing conditions are between four billion and 16 billion. Depending on the estimate, human overpopulation may or may not have already occurred.

Our Future

The population is expected to reach between 8 and 10.5 billion between the years 2040 and 2050. In 2017, the United Nations increased the medium variant projections to 9.8 billion for 2050 and 11.2 billion for 2100.
