Rain Gain: Planet Earth’s Wealth

{And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.} (Surat Al-Hijr 15:22).

With the horn of Africa facing severe drought, you can hardly imagine someone today complaining about the rain.

Rain droplets can change landscapes and Earth features. Lowering precipitation levels or a total lack of rain can create arid ecozones and deserts, with little if any plant and animal life being able to survive the thirst.

Increase the amount of rainfall and a paradise on Earth would be created, with biodiversity emerging that encompasses numerous species.

Interestingly, rain goes down as freshwater only, making it responsible for the formation of most freshwater bodies on Earth’s surface and underground. Sizes of the raindrops could vary from being 0.1 millimeters in diameter to 9 or 10 mm wide.

Oceans receive the majority of Earth’s rainfalls; out of 505,000 cubic kilometers/year precipitation world-wide, oceans gain 398,000 cubic kilometers.
