Psychology of Narcissism

Narcissism isn’t just a personality type that shows up in advice columns; it’s actually a set of traits classified and studied by psychologists. About 75% of narcissists are men. But what causes it? And can narcissists improve on their negative traits?

According to Islamic teachings, there are many conditions and phenomena that are recognized as some sort of psychological disorder and health.

On the basis of Islamic teachings many ways are given in order to fight psychological disorder and to achieve psychological health.

Islam provides Muslims with a code of behavior, ethics, and social values, which helps them in tolerating and developing adaptive coping strategies to deal with stressful life events and avoid appalling behaviours like narcissism.

Islam teaches how to live in harmony with others {Seek the life to come by means of what God granted you, but do not neglect your rightful share in this world. Do good to others as God has done good to you. Do not seek to spread corruption in the land, for God does not love those who do this} (Surat Al-Qasas 28:77).

In this video lesson, W. Keith Campbell of TED-Ed describes the psychology behind the elevated and sometimes detrimental self-involvement of narcissists.
