MADRID – Fulfilling the dream of 5-year-old Palestinian survivor of arson attack by Israeli settlers in which he lost his family, Real Madrid said they will arrange a meeting between the young boy and the team star player Christiano Ronaldo.
The team “would be delighted” to receive the boy,” the team spokesman Raul Serrano Quevedo said in a letter to the Palestinian ambassador.
The response followed an official request to the Palestinian Embassy to organize a meeting between Ahmad Dawabsha and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ahmad is still recovering in hospital from the July 31 arson attack by Jewish extremist settlers that killed his 18-month-old brother and their parents.
“We want to raise attention of this dreadful crime around the globe, and sports are the best way to do that,” Nasser Dawabsha, the boy’s uncle was quoted by AP.
“We want to prevent similar crimes against our people.”
The attack occurred last July when four Jewish settlers hurled fire bombs inside two homes, setting off a blaze that killed a sleeping toddler and critically wounded his parents and 4-year-old brother.
Assailants sprayed painted graffiti reading “revenge” and “long live the Messiah” in Hebrew before breaking the windows of the homes and throwing two firebombs inside.
In 2014, three Israeli settlers abducted and burned alive the Palestinian teenager whose murder sparked angry protests two weeks ago, paving way to Israeli’s crackdown on Palestinians and airstrikes on Gaza.
