Irish Mosque Celebrates Successful Open Day

LIMERICK, Ireland – In a highly successful event, Al Furqan Mosque held an open day last July 15, welcoming neighbors and visitors from all faiths who wanted to know about Islam.

The event, organized by Al-Furqan mosque and Discover Islam Ireland, included a tour inside the mosque, free brochures and henna painting.

The Al-Furquan Muslim Community Association is one of four mosques in Limerick. Others are situated in Dooradoyle, O’Connell Street and a newly-established centre near St John’s Hospital.

It is estimated that Ireland’s Muslim population currently stands at approximately 70,000.

A 2011 census recorded 49,204 Muslims, including nearly 12,000 school-aged children. The numbers represent a 51 percent increase since 2006.
