Macy’s Set to Release Hijab-Friendly Collection

DUBAI – A giant US department store is set to release its first modest collection targeting hijabi Muslim women and women seeking modesty of all faiths.

Macy’s has announced a new collaboration with Verona Collection to welcome its first modest line, which will hit the US e-commerce website on February 15.

The line is expected to stock hijab-friendly fashion for both Muslim and non-Muslim women.

“Verona Collection is more than a clothing brand. It’s a platform for a community of women to express their personal identity and embrace fashion that makes them feel confident on the inside and outside,” said Lisa Vogl, founder of Verona Collection, in a statement cited by Emirates Women on Sunday, February 4.

The line has been introduced through The Workshop at Macy’s, an in-house program that aims to support minority- and women-owned businesses.

Verona is the brainchild of Vogl, who was inspired to create stylish yet modest pieces after converting to Islam in 2011.

Islam sees hijab as an obligatory code of dress, not just a religious symbol displaying one’s affiliations.

Modesty and religion are the cornerstones behind the fast-growing Islamic fashion industry, which is making a mark on runways from Indonesia and Dubai to Monte Carlo.

Islamic fashion is part of a growing appetite for Shari`ah-related industries and assets, ranging from finance to halal food.

Macy’s is the latest huge retailer to cater for its Muslim customers.

High-end brands such as Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Donna Karan New York, as well as high street stores like Zara and Uniqlo, are known for releasing Ramadan or `Eid collections in countries with large Muslim population.
