Guidelines for Humor and Joking in Islam

Is there any room for humor and joking in Islam? It is amazing that a classic biography of the Prophet had a chapter about the Prophet’s jokes!

Some readers may find this astonishing. They may wonder, did the Prophet really joke or have fun with his Companions?

They may think that the big responsibilities of the Prophet and the huge mission he had as the final Prophet and the leader of the Muslim Ummah would keep him far away from a simple act like joking with his household and Companions.

But that is not a correct impression. In this Khutbah, Dr. Yasir Qadhi, shares some of the humor of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and demonstrates why it is important for us to be aware of this aspect of the Seerah as well.

Dr. Yasir Qadhi also lays out guidelines of Islam when it comes to cracking jokes and being humorous.
