Umm Zakiyyah reflects on the challenges that face US Muslims in their spiritual growth and their journey to reach a balance in practicing Islam.

In the video, themed “I Never Thought It Would Be Me”, she relates that the turning point in her spirituality was getting married and becoming a mother. Surprisingly, she had to face harsh criticism and rejection from her old Muslim friends, who were not elated by her increasing devotion. 

Later on, she encountered the same judgemental attitude, this time from seemingly faithful and practicing believers.
