Why Does Nothing Bad Happen to Non Religious People?

16 November, 2018
Q I was speaking to an ex muslim about my success and how praying and following Islam is the reason for it. My prayers were constantly being answered and it led me closer to Islam and becoming a better muslim. However, the person told me that my hard work is the reason, since they do not pray or follow Islam and are successful too. They told me that it is a fallacy, believing that my belief in Allah and praying, is the reason for my success. I told them that this is based on my experience and I truly believe in it. How do I defend this argument? Should I ignore it? It's easy to see this point since they are living a non religious life and nothing bad is happening to them. I do get upset because they judge me for being religious, while I do not do that to them.

Answer

Short Answer: The fact that Allah still provides, shows mercy and allows those whom He created who disbelieve in Him still live and do whatever they please- is something un-human. It is a proof of His elevated Godly Attributes that reflect His Mercy, Patience and Justice. Basically, Allah will not allow the reward of anybody to go wasted. Meaning, if those who disbelieve in Him work hard to earn the goods of this world, they will get it. He will not prevent them of it. BUT, they have zero rewards in the hereafter; and that’s His Justice. They did not work for the Hereafter or the Day of Judgment or to earn Paradise, then they will not even smell it!!

They’re Non-Religious and Nothing Bad Happens to Them

Allah Glorified and Exalted is not a vengeful God. He is Fair and Generous.

The fact that He still provides, shows mercy and allows those whom He created who disbelieve in Him still live and do whatever they please- is something un-human.

That’s only fair, right?

They worked for this life; they’ll have it according to their efforts in it.

But to Allah, this entire world is not even worth a mosquito’s wing!

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Were this world worth a wing of mosquito, He would not have given a drink of water to an infidel.” [At- Tirmidhi]

He gives them from this world because it has no value to Him. It is a VERY short temporary period of testing in comparison to the eternal afterlife.

Some people are ignoring the definite death and working solely and earnestly for a short life that doesn’t even fully satisfy human beings -even if they accumulate all the wealth in the world.

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“This world (i.e., its pleasures and duration) in comparison with the Hereafter is (similar to the amount of water) one gets when he puts his finger in the sea. Let him then see what it returns with”. [Muslim]

So, the answer in short:

And whoever has disbelieved – let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts. We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment.” (Quran 31: 24)

They already disbelieve in this, so let them rest and enjoy their life here – if possible – and you don’t need to worry.

If they need help believing, you can help them when they ask sincerely and respectfully; but you do not need to justify your faith to anyone. Let this be clear.

And Allah knows best.

I hope this helps.

Salam and please keep in touch.
