May I Supplicate for the Man I Love?

17 November, 2016
Q I have loved a man for the past 2 months, the thing is he's not of similar financial background. Though he's striving to settle his business, he's has been facing trials. I remember him two days back not having money to even buy water to drink. I'm still dependent on my father. Is there any way I can help him by prayers? Is it permissible to pray for him, and what all Duas I may make for him so that he prospers?

Answer

Salam Dear Sister,

Thank you for your question and for contacting Ask About Islam.

To begin with, yes it is permissible in Islam to make dua for the financial well being of the man you love. Actually, you may make dua (wishing for the well being) of anyone.

There are general guidelines about supplication (dua), which you may find at this link.

Remind the brother that the essence of getting Allah’s sustenance is taqwa (being mindful of Allah). Allah says what means:

{…And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him, And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.} (At-Talaaq, 65:2-3)

Omran ibn Al-Hosayn narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Supplicating for a Muslim brother or sister secretly (without him or her knowing) will never be rejected by Allah” (Al-Albani, Sahih)

Also Abu-Dardaa narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Supplicating for a Muslim brother or sister secretly is accepted by Allah. And Allah will assign a special angel for the supplicator. Every time he or she supplicates for the well-being of his or her brother or sister in Islam, the angel says: ‘Ameen and you shall have the same” (Al-Albani, Sahih)

You may make dua in your own language since the best dua is the one that you understand and comes sincerely from the heart. Just ask Allah for what you wish. If you want a dua in Arabic, here’s a simple one.

Arabic transliteration:

Allahumma irzikhu rizkan halalan tayyiban (having him in mind)

or:

Allahumma irzik (mention his name) rizkan halalan tayyiban

Translation:

O Allah give him pure and lawful sustenanceMay I Supplicate for the Man I Love

If you do so in your own language, you may expand on this the way you feel is best. Just remember to follow the etiquette of making dua, such as praising Allah (SWT) and sending salutations on the Prophet (peace be upon him) before and after the dua.

In the following article, you will find some details of what is permissible and what is not when it comes to man-woman relationship:

May I Pray for the Deceased Man I Loved?

I hope this helps answer your question.

Salam and please keep in touch.
