How to Convince a Christian Friend about Islam?

05 July, 2016
Q As-salamu alaykum, I'm not quit sure how to explain my situation, a few months ago I met a guy he's Christian but he's not really convinced.I speak to him a lot about Islam and he asks me too.But here's a thing I know I should be a shamed but I'm not a good Muslim myself and I'm not sure if I can show him what Islam is really is ... He told me that before we met he didn't want to be a follower of any religion but now that is changed. A while back ago he met some missionaries (Catholics) and they give him a book, they keep calling him to go to the church to see them.He says that they look so peaceful, they're young yet are so committed to their religion. He recently admitted to me that no matter who talks to him, he just can't feel Allah and maybe if he starts to pray, Allah will answer...I think God destined me to meet him so not only him finds his way to him, so I can find my way back to him too. Salam.

Answer

Salam Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your question and for contacting Ask About Islam.

Please use the following argument that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was already mentioned in both the Torah and the Bible but conveniently removed.

We must first agree that there are many versions of the Bible as well as many translations. The ones that are currently used by Christian denominations have translated the name of Muhammad from its original language so the actual name is no longer there.

However, the The Gospel of Barnabas teaches that Jesus was a Prophet and it is God the Creator who is worthy of worship; in addition to giving glad tidings about the coming of Muhammad (peace be upon them all). Please search the word “Muhammad” within the text in the above link.

Also the current versions of the Bible speak about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) such as in John 15:26

However, the name of Muhammad has been translated or omitted in most versions of the Christian Bible.

Barnabas was one of Jesus’ disciples who wrote the Gospel directly from Jesus’ mouth who spoke Aramaic while the New Testament with all its different versions are translated from Greek, a language that Jesus never spoke.

The bible of Barnabas is not translated by Muslims; you may buy your copy from any bookstore.

According to Islam, Jesus (peace be upon him) is a mighty Prophet of God who was raised to heavens and was never crucified and shall return towards the end of times.

The proof that Jesus (peace be upon him) is a man and not God nor His son is in the King James Version of the Bible, Job 25:4-6 where it mentions the son of man is a worm. Conveniently “Son of Man”, capital “S” and ”M”, the title that was given to Jesus throughout the Bible, became “son of man” – lower case – in verse 25:6. If this is not so why repeat man is a worm and son of man is a worm.

The Gill’s interpretation of the Bible mentions:
“…and our Lord himself, in human nature, was content to be called a worm,…”

However the Catholic and Protestant churches were not content so in their latest versions of the Bible, the Good News Bible (GNB) and New Living Translation (NLT), modified Job 25:6 to read:

[Then what about a human being, that worm, that insect? What is a human life worth in God’s eyes?] (GNB)

[In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms.”] (NLT)

If you read those verses (Job 25:4-6) in the previously mentioned versions you will find that the meaning is quite different. Are the Churches allowed to change the word of God? Or is it that the Bible is human opinion that they may change it as they please?

Believing in all prophets of God is a main Islamic creed; therefore believing in Muhammad and Jesus (peace be upon them) does not contradict with believing in the only One God, our Creator; it rather corresponds extremely well: One Creator and many human prophets conveying God’s message to people. That’s how it has always been since the creation of man.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Salam and please keep in touch.
